headcanon that when sirius is worked up and upset, he combs and plaits and plays with his hair to calm himself down. it’s a coping mechanism he’s taught himself to help him deal with the trauma at home.
remus picks up on it one day when he sees sirius struggle with a hair tie after a really intense day, and he grabs the hairbrush and starts brushing sirius’ hair for him and plaits it loosely for him. it becomes a routine, and remus makes a habit of always keeping hair ties on his wrist.
